WHERE THE SKI SEASON NEVER ENDS!
Easy access and splendid
So why, exactly, do we think Banff is so great? For starters, it’s a mere four hour flight from Montreal to Calgary so, technically, it takes the same time to fly to Calgary as it does to drive to Charlevoix! Also, the gorgeous natural surroundings that Banff has to offer—no matter if you’re on the road, in town or at the resort. If you’re looking for that “wow” factor, you’ll be well served at Banff!
And then, of course, there’s the mountains and resorts: the closest is Norquay, which we recommend for a day when you want to give your legs a break in gorgeous groomed runs that are still pretty steep.
Located about 20 minutes from Banff, it includes three different mountains: Mount Standish, which truly has something for every level, Lookout Mountain, which is better suited to intermediate or advanced skiers and, lastly, the Goat’s Eye area, perfect for more adventurous types. The layout at Sunshine Village looks a lot like a hand, with the five main lifts and gondolas representing the five fingers surrounding the Main Lodge at the center of it all—which makes it very easy to find your way around. Don’t miss the new chairlift on the Lookout Mountain side, with its fabulous heated seats and funky orange-coloured covers.
Lake Louise is located about 45 minutes outside the town of Banff. This magnificent paradise features a bigger ski area and a huge backcountry sector. Although it doesn’t get as much snow accumulation as Sunshine, Lake Louise has tons of bowls and glades. And, of course, the stunning panoramic view is nothing short of magical. Much like the mountain itself, the slopeside chalet is laid-back and inviting. The ambiance, the service and the food are amazing, and the live music and DJs help create a lively après-ski atmosphere.
The best option is staying at a hotel in the heart of town that includes breakfast and walking to a restaurant in the evening. With so many options to choose from, you are certain to find something that suits both your palate and your budget!
- For an unforgettable experience, you can enjoy slopeside accommodations by combining a stay at Sunshine Mountain Lodge for a few nights with a stay in the Town of Banff.
