By Daniel Melançon, Sports Reporter for Salut Bonjour! and Host of Golf Mag on TVA Sports
For over 7 years now, thanks to Golf Mag—the show I host on TVA Sports—I have had the opportunity to discover some of the most beautiful places to indulge my passion for golf. In the Spring of 2016, the entire team boarded the plane to Williamsburg, Virginia to tape three episodes on the following courses: the Brickshire Golf Club, the Royal New Kent and the Kingsmill Resort.
The latter is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most played in the region. For over 30 years, the Kingsmill has been the stage upon which the best golfers in the world, both male and female, have demonstrated their skills. In fact, the LPGA and PGA held several large-scale tournaments here. However, as much as the pros enjoy the Kingsmill, it is the thousands of players like you and me that have truly benefited from this course, designed and revamped by the one and only Pete Dye. The Kingsmill is a 54-hole resort featuring the renowned River Course.
The Brickshire Golf Club, for its part, opened in 2001 and is widely adored for the quality of its design. You’ll love the ample fairways, undulating greens and numerous elevation changes over its 18 holes.
The Royal New Kent is located between Richmond and Williamsburg, and has been open to golfers since 1997. During its first seasons of existence, the course received countless accolades from golf magazines and, even after 20 years, the Royal New Kent remains a true test of any player’s golfing skills. The greens are immense but the course also features close to a hundred sand traps that you definitely want to try to avoid. Just a little friendly tip before you go: you’ll have to play this course a couple of times before you truly get a feel for it!
During our vacation, we stayed at the Historic Powhatan Resort. This particular resort gives visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in U.S. Colonial history thanks to its magnificent restored English manor dating back to 1735.
The Gendrongolf team gives you the possibility of travelling to this destination at a lower cost by taking a deluxe coach bus to Williamsburg from one of our four departure locations—Quebec City, Drummondville, Longueuil and Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.
