Perfectly located for combining cycling, beach, history and gastronomy, the coastal area of Emilia-Romagna is a magnificent cycling destination. It offers cycling routes with a wide variety of levels and scenery, combining seaside landscapes, vineyards and olive groves, castles, fortified towns and winding mountain passes.
What’s more, this region is well accustomed to cyclists. The Giro d’Italia passes through regularly. Amateur cyclists will also find plenty to enjoy, whatever their ambitions. In southern Emilia-Romagna, there are many bike hotels, an ideal formula for cycling camps: everything is designed around cycling and vacations.
Many of these bike hotels are ideally located, very close to the beach. You are therefore perfectly accommodated, well fed and looked after by hosts who know and understand cyclists. And after your bike rides, you can bask in the sun, swim in the Adriatic Sea and rest up to be ready for the next outing on the road.
Otherwise, if you want to take a break from pedalling, you can take the train to visit Bologna and its historic and university districts. Emilia-Romagna is also rich in vineyards, and visiting them is a pleasure. In this region, as in the rest of Italy, meals are an event. The food is truly excellent and the local specialties are a pure delight!
