Located in the Savoie region, the vast Tignes and Val d'Isère ski area—also known as Espace Killy—is a big part of the reason the French Alps are so renown. As long as you keep a map of this area handy, it’s easy enough to find your way around the colossal playground.
Across the 300 kilometres of trails, you’ll discover amazing observation areas such as Grande Motte, the Bellevarde Rock and Aiguille Percée. For a unique and breathtaking experience, hop on the Lessières chairlift. Once you make your way past the two peaks, you’ll literally feel like you’re floating on air! As far as accommodations go, any of the quaint nearby hamlets is a good option and each is unique its own way. No matter which you choose, you’ll enjoy the friendly, laid-back atmosphere that prevails. Val d'Isère is recognized for its charm and authenticity, delightful stone houses and numerous amenities. Tignes, in the Val Claret sector, is my personal favourite, mostly because it provides excellent value for the money and is strategically located at the heart of the ski area and near the lifts. Whether you opt to make Tignes your vacation base or prefer to just check it out between two runs, make sure you take advantage of the terraces and restaurants, where you can indulge in delectable regional specialties. Few destinations offer visitors so many advantages.
