Chamonix
A vertical landscape
As the Chamonix Valley comes into sight, we squish our faces up against the windows of the bus, stretching our necks up to try and absorb as much of the view as we can. Of course, the mountains are much too big and much too high. There’s no way to take it all in!
And what about the charming little village of Chamonix. Even with its buildings and multi-level hotels, the peaks of the Mont Blanc mountain range stretch thousands of metres past the edge of town. The vertical landscape is replete with the area’s legendary peaks covered with everlasting snow. It’s easy to understand why when you consider that this particular ski area consists of several sub-domains, each of which is bigger than a dozen or so Quebec resorts put together.
I can’t possibly express the immensity of this legendary place in so few words. Unless, of course, I tell you about the Aiguille du Midi, which can only be accessed using two separate cable cars. That alone should give you a good idea of its size. Needless to say, however, you’ll only truly understand just how colossal this place is when you spend a day enjoying an unforgettable ski descent of La Vallée Blanche (with the help of a guide!) and experience it for yourself. Once you try it, you’ll be hooked! No matter how many times you go, I guarantee you’ll be blown away—every. single. time.
