Perfectly situated to combine cycling, beach, history and gastronomy, the coastal area of Emilia-Romagna is a magnificent cycling destination. There are cycling routes of a wide variety of sizes and scenery, combining seaside landscapes, vineyards and olive groves, castles, fortified towns and winding mountain passes.

What’s more, this region is no stranger to cyclists. The Giro d’Italia passes through here regularly. Amateur cyclists are also well catered for, whatever their ambitions. In the south of Emilia-Romagna, there are many bike hotels, an ideal formula for cycling camps: everything is designed with cycling and vacations in mind.

Many of these bike hotels are ideally located, right next to the beach. So you’re perfectly accommodated, fed and looked after by hosts who know and understand cyclists. After your bike rides, you can bask in the sun, swim in the Adriatic Sea and rest up for your next ride.

Alternatively, if you want to take a break from pedaling, you can take the train to visit Bologna and its historic and university districts. Emilia-Romagna is also rich in vineyards. In this region, as in the rest of Italy, meals are an event. The food here is really good, and the local specialities are pure delight!

Are you ready for Dolce Vita?

Urbino The historic centre of Urbino, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was a cradle of Italian culture during the Renaissance.  Second oldest university in Europe.
Saint Marin The Republic of San Marino is the 3rd smallest state in Europe. Built on Mount Titano. The old town is home to 19th century monuments such as Basilica Di San Marino and Piazza della Libertà.  The Palazzo Pubblico is from the 14th century
Saludecio In Saludecio, do not miss the Porta Marina, the fortified gate that is the entry point to the country for those arriving by the Adriatic Sea
Santarcangelo You will be dazzled by the medieval architecture of Santarcangelo. One still recognizes the structure of its fortified city at the foot of Mount Giove
San Leo The town of San Leo was occupied by barbarians, Franks and Byzantines during their various conflicts and it keeps a fabulous mix of cultures
Verucchio 16 km from Rimini, the Rocca de Verucchio appears on its rock at 296 meters above sea level, overlooking the Marecchia valley. Just opposite is the castle of Montebello (Montebello di Torriana) and behind it stands the immense Mount Titan of the Republic of San Marino.  You never get tired of it.

Alternative activities/ Visits to do

Destination

Description

Bologne 1h40 minutes by train (8 euros). The cuisine is renowned for being the best in Italy, and the university among the oldest in Europe, plus the city is superb.  Most places of interest are concentrated within walking distance of the main square, Piazza del Maggiore, and the adjacent Piazza del Nettuno.
Bologna train station offers many destinations (Venice, Florence, Modena, Plaisance, Parma etc.)
Ferrare Renaissance city enamelled with imposing palace and still surrounded by its medieval ramparts almost intact.  Although listed as a World Heritage Site, it is often ignored.  Take a break to enjoy its delightfully peaceful and bike-friendly streets and its palazzi frozen in time
Florence 2 h 30 by train (80 euros)
Motor Valley It is in a small triangle between Modena and Bologna, sometimes called Motor Valley, that some of the most beautiful luxury cars in the world are made: Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani.  Enthusiasts can dream by visiting the region’s six car museums, two of which are dedicated to the Ferrari (Modena and Maranello) and two to the Lamborghini.  Motorcycle enthusiasts will head to the Museo Ducati
Modène Once past the factories that surround this opulent town, we discover a charming historic centre with lively squares, beautiful palazzi and colourful markets.  Modena is also famous for its magnificent Romanesque cathedral.  The city was the birthplace of opera singer Luciano Pavarotti whose house, on the outskirts of the city, was transformed into a museum.
The city can claim another legacy of legend: cars.  The Ferrari, Maserati and De Tomaso factories are major contributors to its prosperity. The Ferrari Museum is nearby in Maranello.
Accessible from Bologna by train (4 euros, 30 minutes)
Plaisance (piacenza) Located just at the edge of Lombardy, it can be the subject of a day trip.  Its picturesque centre contains a beautiful Gothic-style communal palace and several imposing churches.
Plaisance is accessible by train from Bologna (25 euros, 1h45)
Parme Ancient Etruscan city, became a Roman colony in 183 BC, was a free commune in the Middle Ages, until 1135.  Parma is also the birthplace of Verdi and… of Lamborghini. This charming city deserves a stop.
Accessible by train via Bologna (7.50 euros, 1h15)
Ravenne Ravenna is a city rich in Byzantine architecture, since it was the capital of the Byzantine empire.  It was also the capital of the Roman Empire and the capital of the Kingdom of the Ostrogoths.  There is also the tomb of the famous writer Dante Aloghieri
Riccione Although the hotel is located in this city, its historic city centre is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel.  A city of art and part of the Unesco heritage, it will enchant you.  In addition, you can enjoy these many seaside resorts overlooking the Adriatic Sea for a walk.
The Riccione train station (7 minutes from the hotel) is an excellent starting point for transit to Bologna.
Rimini The city of Rimini (150k inhabitants) is only 15 minutes by bus from the hotel. You can visit its Roman historic district.  Not to be missed: piazza Tre Martini, piazza Cavour, l’Arco d’Augusto (27 BC), Corso D’Augusto, Tempio Malatestioano cathedral, Ponte di Tiberio (year 21), Quartier Borgo San Giuliano, Italia in Minitura, la Sagra Musicale Malatestiana, Marina Centro (nightlife), enjoy a Piadina.
Trains to the main cities (Bologna, Ravenna) depart from the Stazione di Rimini.  The train is the easiest and fastest way to get around.
San Marin This medieval city stretching on the slopes of Monte Titano (750m), was declared a World Heritage Site in 2008.  Ignored by most visitors, the largest city, Dogana, is on the bus route from Italy.
Bus from Rimini, 5 euros, 50 minutes.
Venise Canals, palaces, churches… and the countless tesserae of mosaics in Saint-Marc
Venice is accessible by train via Bologna. Expect 4 hours, 50 euros)
