Snowbird and Alta
By Paul Dubrûle
The latest ad campaign produced by the Alta Ski Resort tells the story of skiers, including several pros, who decided to settle in the area for the skiing and to be part of one big ski family and community. It’s touching, brilliant, and leaves you with the overwhelming urge to pack up your bags and go!
At one time in my life, I was lucky enough to be part of this big ski family along with my good friend Normand Perrier—and, in my heart, I’m still a part of it. I was a destination rep at the time, and I literally lived and breathed skiing! I remember one particular winter when we made a bet that we could only sleep in if we got less than 25 cm of snow, and let’s just say that we never did get much extra sleep!
I can’t deny it, Utah is one of my favourite ski destinations. With 300 days of sun per year, a semi-desert climate and endless metres of glorious powder, what’s not to love? I never get tired of Snowbird and Alta—they make the perfect pair! Alta is the mountain with more of a local feel and a somewhat vintage style where snowboarders are prohibited. Snowbird, on the other hand, is much more modern and boasts a young, vibrant atmosphere. However, since both are interconnected, you can enjoy access to an immense ski area, which also features tons of off-piste for those who love to explore.
As far as accommodations go, I recommend Cliff Lodge at Snowbird. Over the years, this place has become a true institution and a favourite among skiers.
