Cayo Coco is a permanent invitation to enjoy beaches of the highest quality. The tourist region of Jardins du Roy, in the north of the province of Ciego de Ávila, is part of the Sabana-Camagüey archipelago, the largest of the four that surround the island of Cuba itself, since it has 2,517 islets, two of which are real islands by their size: Cayo Romano (777 km2) and Cayo Coco (370 km2).
It is to the adelantado Diego Velázquez that they owe their name, since he named them in honor of the King of Spain, Ferdinand the Catholic. Five centuries later, these Gardens continue to offer the attraction of new discoveries. Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, two of the most precious jewels of this necklace of islands, have their virginity as their treasure.
In addition to its 22 kilometres of beach, Cayo Coco offers an additional attraction: 90% of the beach is covered with vegetation and serves as a refuge for many species of animals (all harmless), including a large colony of pink flamingos. Cayo Guillermo is more intimate, but just as welcoming. It measures only 13.2 km2, but nevertheless has three beaches totalling 3.5 km, particularly Pilar Beach, with its attractive landscape and the highest dunes in the West Indies.
