Day 1
Montreal - Guatemala City

Arrival in Guatemala City.

  • Check-in at your hotel in Zone 10 or Zone 9 (safe and central neighborhoods).
  • Depending on the time:
    • Visit to the Metropolitan Cathedral and Plaza de la Constitución
    • Discovery of the Central Market for crafts and street food
    • Popol Vuh Museum or Ixchel to understand Mayan cultures
  • Dinner in a local restaurant (El Adobe, Flor de Lis – more gastronomic)
Day 2
Antigua
  • Free exploration of this UNESCO-listed colonial city
  • Points of interest:
    • Santa Catalina Arch
    • La Merced Church
    • Ruins of San José Cathedral
  • Coffee and artisanal chocolate break (Chocolate Museum, Café Condesa)
Day 3
Pacaya volcano
  • Pacaya Volcano hike (4–5 hour excursion)
    • Views of solidified lava flows
    • Possibility to roast marshmallows on the fumaroles
  • Afternoon relaxation
    • Antigua craft market
    • Rooftop at sunset (Sky Café, Café Boheme)
Day 4
Antigua
  • Guatemalan cooking workshop
  • Visit to a coffee farm around Antigua
  • Evening suggestions: rum tasting (Ron Zacapa)
Day 5
Chichicastenango - Lake Atitlán

Early morning departure to Chichicastenango (market on Thursdays and Sundays).

In Chichicastenango:

  • The largest Maya market in Central America
  • Colorful textiles, traditional masks, sculptures
  • Shamanic rituals and mystical atmosphere around Santo Tomás church
  • Visit to the colorful cemetery, site of Maya ceremonies

Then road to Lake Atitlán (2h). Check-in at Panajachel, Santa Cruz or San Marcos.

Day 6
Lake Atitlán

Boat trip in a lancha (local boat).

  • Santiago Atitlán: Tz’utujil culture, painters’ workshops
  • San Juan La Laguna: textile cooperatives, natural dyes
  • San Pedro: cafés, relaxed atmosphere, incredible view of the volcanoes
  • Sunset over the lake.
Day 7
Lake Atitlán

Choices:

  • Indian Nose hike at sunrise
  • Kayak/paddle board on the lake
  • Spa or yoga in San Marcos
  • Chill day in your lodge with volcano views
Day 8
Guatemala City

Transfert retour (3 h).
